How Can You Help?
Clear Lake State Park is celebrating too! Be on the lookout for local wildlife features, and some "tips & tricks" to enhance biodiversity in your neighborhood.
Tips & Tricks to Enhance Biodiversity in your neighborhood:
Make the wildlife feel welcome!
Give extra support to the wildlife that frequent your neighborhood, especially during times of drought... every living thing requires water! Set out water, shelter, or food to attract more wild species!
Volunteer with an environmental preserve or wild animal rescue!
Find out about environmental organizations in our area, maybe you can help rescue injured animals, or help clean up a local habitat!
Protect local habitats!
Seek out natural spaces in your area, and help to clean up and protect them! Beaches, parks, reserves, and fields where plants and animals live, all need our help!
Secure your house pets!
Did you know that if your house pet was to get loose, it could be considered an invasive species? It's estimated that in the U.S. 44 million free-roaming house cats kill nearly 4.4 million song-birds EACH DAY! Help keep those numbers low by securing your house pets when you aren't around to supervise them.
Leave natural items/wildlife in the wild!
Its okay to watch and observe wildlife, and take pictures of natural items, but please don't bring them home. Not only do plants and animals often die outside their habitats, but they also cannot reproduce or "do their job" if you remove it from the environment. Even removing branches and dead brush takes away from a habitat--you never know who was using that as a home!
Be a Smart Shopper!
Only buy things you really need, so that you're spreading the wealth of Earth's natural resources. Shop for good quality items, that are made with fair-trade and sustainable resources, so that you can re-use them many times, and maybe even pass them down to a friend/family member in the future!
Reduce, Re-Use, and Recycle!
You may have heard this many times before, but its never been so important to value our resources! Reducing our energy or water use, along with re-using or re-purposing our used items, and recycling will only save new resources from being used to make new goods, and ensure that there's more to go around!
Be A Role Model!
If you begin to make small changes in your lifestyle on the path to becoming a steward for the planet, maybe your friends and family will too! Earth-keepers are so essential to combatting the effects of pollution, enhancing biodiversity, and keeping our planet healthy for the generations to come!
